94 year old Man Becomes Japan’s Oldest Election Candidate

 Some seem to take the phrase “you’re never too old” to the extreme. A 94 year old man just filed his candidacy, three hours before the deadline, to represent the 12th district of Saitama Prefecture, becoming the oldest of 1,504 candidates in Japan’s general elections this month.

Fake Soldier Arraigned For Assaulting LASTMA Officers

A fake soldier, Kingsley Ighalo , 37, has been arraigned on a five-count charge at the Special Offences Magistrate Court in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria for assaulting an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.
He was arraigned before Magistrate Yetunde Pinhero for assaulting Ayinla Adeola and Adeshina Akinwunmi, officials of LASTMA at Bolade area of the state on Wednesday.

Anglican Primate, Adetiloye Dies

Retired Archbishop and Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye, 83, is dead. He died 1 a.m. today at his hometown in Odo-Owa, Ekiti State.
His son, Adeola Adetiloye, confirmed the death. Adeola described his father as a man who dedicated his entire life to one dream, one purpose, one vision, the church.
“He often tells us that his failed marriage was a blessing in disguise and that if it hadn’t failed, he wouldn’t have devoted his life like he did to the church.Infact, he was married to the church,” he said.

27 Dead in Connecticut Elementary School Shooting

A shooting at a Connecticut elementary school Friday left 27 people dead, including 18 children, an official said.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still under way. Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity for the same reason, said the gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown was killed and apparently had two guns.
Stephen Delgiadice said his 8-year-old daughter heard two big bangs and teachers told her to get in a corner. His daughter was fine.

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala's Mother Freed

Professor Kamene Okonjo, mother of Nigeria’s finance minister, has been freed by her abductors.
The retired 82 year old professor of sociology and Queen mother of the Delta state town of Ogwashi Ukwu, was kidnapped Sunday by 10 armed men in her husband’s palace when she came out to serve drinks to workers.
Reuters reported her release this morning, quoting a security source.
“She has been released now by her captors and she is at home,” said the source, who had confirmed Kamene Okonjo’s kidnapping on Sunday in Delta state.

Dana Air commences Final payment of $70,000 to Families of Crash Victims

 THE management of DANA Air, on Thursday, said it had commenced the final payment of $70,000 (about N10.5 million) to families of each of the victims of the June 3 air crash in Lagos.
The Head of Corporate Communications, DANA Air, Mr. Tony Usidamen, made the disclosure in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
It will be recalled that a DANA flight from Abuja to Lagos crashed on June 3 at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, killing all 153 persons on board, and some others on the ground.

40-year-old Woman Breastfeeds Tiger Cubs

Two tiger cubs, one male, one female were taken from her mother when she killed the third one in her litter.

They are now been bosom fed by a wet nurse, Hla Htay, at the Yangon Zoological Gardens in Burma and by breastfed, straight from her mammary glands.

Ms Htay, 40, the partner of an employee at the zoo, told local newspapers that she felt sorry for the animals and offered her services, at least until the cubs grew teeth.

The two are now being raised on bottled milk as well as Hla Htay’s milk four times a day.



Gov. Imoke Dispels Death Rumours, Says He’s Alive


Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, has dismissed rumours making the rounds in the state that he had passed on to the world beyond, emphasising that he was very much alive.
Imoke left the country three weeks ago for medical attention and following his doctors’ advice to spare more time for a comprehensive treatment, the governor is expected to spend two months in the hospital.
Imoke had last Thursday officially transmitted a letter to Cross River State House of Assembly, which empowered his deputy, Mr. Efiok Cobham, to act on his behalf and to as well enable him attend to his health crisis. He told the House of Assembly to take note of two months of accumulated leave, beginning from December 6, 2012 to February 6, 2013.

63 suspects Arrested Over Okonjo’s kidnap

Nigeria Army said on Thursday that soldiers had arrested 63 people in raids as they searched for Prof. Kamene Okonjo, the 82-year-old mother of Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
“Yesterday the Four Brigade raided Ogwashi-Ukwu in search of Mama,” Army spokesperson Roseline Managbe, told Reuters.
“Those arrested are being questioned.”

From kidnapping to torture and ultimately castration, New Mexico police have revealed every horrifying step of the men’s scheme to kill the teenage superstar, intended to take place in late November as he played two sold-out shows at New York City‘s Madison Square Garden.
An affidavit obtained by New Mexico State Police reveals the grisly details of the murder plan developed by Mark Aaron Staake, 41, and his nephew, Tanner Ruane, 23, reported by the Toronto Star. But police reveals the plan was initially concocted by a convicted felon, Dana Martin, who is currently serving two life sentences for raping and killing a 15-year-old girl in Vermont in 2000, according to KRQE, a CBS affiliate in Albuquerque, N.M.

Man Tries to Kill Himself Twice Over His Condition

Taofeek Muraina never had it good as a child. His adulthood is not even better. This, perhaps, explains why the 40-year-old bricklayer thought it wise to die rather than being put to shame by friends and neighbours.
Twice this year, he has attempted suicide. The first time, PUNCH Metro learnt, was about five months ago, while the second one was on December 5.
On December 5, he had wanted to poison himself when a neighbour arrived on time and raised the alarm.
Muraina has been battling with an acute eye condition since when he was a child. As he grows, his condition worsens, making life unbearable for him.

Nollywood Actress, Remi Surutu Pregnant For Island Big Boy

Popular Yoruba actress, named Remi Oshodi otherwise known as Remi Surutu is presently pregnant. The actress, according to what sources told us, was put into the family way by one of her fans, who later became her lover after they both met some months ago.

EFCC Arrests Jigawa State Governor’s Son for $50,000 Money Laundering


 Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday at Mallam Aminu Kano Airport arrested Aminu, the eldest son of Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, over alleged money laundering.
Sources at the airport said Aminu was arrested in the process of boarding an Egypt Air to Cairo by 12.30am by officials of the EFCC.
It was learnt that the son of the governor declared $10,000 at the counter, while further search and interrogation led to the uncovering of another $40,000, which was concealed in his luggage.
He was promptly arrested by the EFCC officials.

Egypt Court Jails Blogger Alber Saber for Blasphemy

A court in Egypt had sentenced a blogger to three years in prison for blasphemy and contempt of religion.
Alber Saber was arrested in September after neighbours accused him of posting links to a film mocking Islam that led to protests across the Muslim world.
Mr Saber, an atheist from a Coptic Christian family, can appeal against the ruling if he pays $167 (£100) bail.
The case raises concerns over freedom of expression just as Egyptians are set to vote on a draft constitution.
Liberals, secularists and the Coptic Church have complained that the document fails to protect basic rights, and that the constituent assembly which approved the charter last month was dominated by Islamists.

NAFDAC Warns Nigerians on Libido Enhancing Drugs

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday warned the public against indiscriminate consumption of sex enhancement drugs.
The Jigawa Coordinator of the agency, Kenneth Azikwe, said in Dutse, the Jigawa capital, that most of the libido drugs in circulation were not certified by the agency.
“The libido drugs in circulation are not certified by NAFDAC and the description on them is in Chinese and other alien languages,” he said. “Consumption of such drugs is harmful because its pharmaceutical composition could not be guaranteed.”

Stolen iPhone Takes Photo of Woman Trying to Unlock it

The owner reported that the iPhone had been stolen at the Coalition nightclub in Brighton earlier in December.
An app had been installed on the phone which takes a photograph of anyone who tries to unlock it, maps their location and sends the information to the owner.
PC Gavin Crute said: "We know where and when the photo was taken" but added that the woman might not be the thief.
Police said the photo was taken in a vehicle with a large sunroof.




Stella Damasus and Yinka Lawanson Appointed NDLEA Ambassador


Stella Damasus and 'Say No To Crime' singer, Yinka Lawanson otherwise known as Lamboginny, have been appointed ambassadors of Nigeria's drugs law enforcement agency; National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The actress and the 'Omo Alhaja' crooner were said to have got this appointment based on their various efforts in campaigning against crime in Nigeria especially with the 'Say No To Crime' campaign by Lamboginny.
